Applications and Solutions

The VDF hydrocyclone is ideal for the precise filtration of suspended solids from liquids in a
variety of applications including:

MACHINING COOLANT FILTRATION
Remove fine shavings and abrasive powders / grains from machine tool coolant:
  • Cutting fluids
  • Grinding fluids (Filters ferrous AND non-ferrous particles)
  • High pressure coolant
  • Coolant through spindle (CTS)
  • Replace current paper and cartridge filters or extend their life   TOP

INDUSTRIAL PROCESS WATER
Protect and extend the life of spray nozzles, sand filters, membrane filters, and other industrial equipment exposed to foreign contaminants. TOP

WASTEWATER
Removes grit and particles from industrial wastewater or effluent treatment tanks. TOP

HIGH PRESSURE WASHER CLEANING FLUID
Prevents foreign particles from circulating within cleaning liquids of high pressure and ultrasonic cleaning equipment. TOP

LUBRICATING FLUID
Extend the life of lubricating fluids and corresponding equipment by removing grit and foreign particles. TOP

NIKUNI VDF CONFIGURATION EXAMPLES
Whether providing system filtration solutions for large machining centers or an end user looking to reduce filtration waste and cost in a single unit, the VDF can be integrated into a variety of filtration configurations to meet each client's requirements. Below are simplified drawings of two typical configurations currently in use by Nikuni clients for machining coolant filtration.

IDEAL TARGETS FOR BEST FILTRATION RESULTS
  • Filtration of particles 5 to 100 µm
  • Larger particles should be pre-filtered via drum filter of other means
  • Solids should have a specific gravity greater than or equal to 2.7 (Ex. Aluminum)
  • Liquids (water / water based emulsion) should have a kinematic viscosity less than 5.0 cSt (Ex. Kerosene)
  • Separating efficiency improves as the density spread between solids (heavier) and liquids (lighter) increases
  • Recommended supply pressure between 29 to 44 psi (0.2 to 0.3 MPa)
